The Board of Directors of American Secondary Schools for International Students and Teachers is are pleased to announce that two new colleagues will join the ASSIST leadership team in Suffield, CT. Their appointments follow a national search in which a significant applicant pool was narrowed to a number of outstanding and impressive candidates who were interviewed. The group of five finalists visited with us in Suffield, and we were unanimous in our enthusiasm for Meg and Marty.
First, we want to thank Anne Stanley, who is stepping down as Vice President after nine successful years. More than a year ago, Anne announced that the 2008/09 academic year would be her last as Vice President of ASSIST. As the first of the Stanley children enters high school, Anne will transition to more flexible work that requires less travel, and is now forming an educational consulting practice. We all appreciate the energy, care and commitment that Anne brought to her work with ASSIST, and we will miss her a great deal.

Succeeding Anne on July 1 with the new title of Vice President for School and Family Relations is Martin (Marty) Milne. A graduate of Eaglebrook, Deerfield and St. Lawrence, where he captained the soccer team, Marty brings a wealth of independent school and international experience to his role with ASSIST. Marty has studied overseas, has led educational trips abroad, and has served as Dean of the Middle School of TASIS Switzerland. More recently, he served as Site Director of the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth at Skidmore College, and comes to us after a successful tenure as Dean of Students at Derryfield School (NH). Marty is an outstanding fit for ASSIST, and we are enthused to introduce him to our colleagues at member schools.
We are also pleased to announce that Meg Moulton, currently Executive Director of the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools, will join ASSIST on August 1 as our first-ever Vice President for Advancement. Meg’s background and credentials will be familiar to many of you, as in addition to her transformative role with NCGS she has served on independent school boards, has been a Trustee of NAIS, and has been a valued consultant to many schools on issues ranging from strategic planning to enrollment management to marketing and communications. Meg is widely published and is sought after by the media for her expertise and wisdom. Meg will focus on strengthening ASSIST’s resource base, in particular helping us to bring deserving students from underrepresented cultures who need additional financial assistance to accept their ASSIST scholarships.
We look forward to having you meet our new colleagues in the year ahead.

A Message from the Chair of the Board
Since August of 2000, Anne has been a valued colleague and a good friend, and she is fully committed to our mission and to the ASSIST Family. We will miss her a great deal, although we know that she will continue to be an important part of the ASSIST Family.
Anne has been a mainstay of our interview team in Germany, has made a science of the art of selecting just the right school for each ASSIST Scholar, and has developed a new host family program to serve our member schools. During her tenure, more than 1,200 ASSIST Scholars studied at our member schools. Beyond that, she has been the voice on the phone that calmed nervous parents, coached host families, solved challenges for school colleagues, and parented our students.
We are delighted that Bob’s intensive search led him to Marty Milne, who is a genuine “school person” with a passion for international education. It is also serendipitous that we created the position of Vice President for Advancement at a time when Meg Moulton was making a professional transition. She brings to ASSIST extensive experience in creative leadership and is an innovative thinker who believes firmly in the benefits of helping independent schools become more global.
Speaking for the Board of Directors, I wish Anne every success in her consulting practice. At the same time, I welcome Marty and Meg to the ASSIST team and look forward to their full participation in our evolving future.
Richard P. Hall
Chair, ASSIST Board of Directors
Dear Friends:
After nine wonderful years with ASSIST, I have decided to step away from my position as Vice President so that I can spend more time with my two daughters, ages 11 and 14. I will miss my work with ASSIST, and I hope to stay in touch with you. I am excited to be starting a new chapter in my life, as I will be opening my own practice as an educational consultant. I will be leaving my responsibilities as Vice President in the very capable hands of Marty Milne.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and to let you know how much I've enjoyed working with you over these past years and how much I value my relationships with school colleagues, host families, country coordinators, volunteers all over the world, and of course, our wonderful Scholars.
Many thanks for your continuing support of the ASSIST program. I look forward to our paths crossing in the future.
With warm regards,
Anne C. Stanley
Vice President
